Posted by cnetwork On Monday, October 22, 2012 0 comments
The new Windows 8 tablets will have an important advantage compared to iPad. This detail could be enough to threaten the supremacy of the iPad.
The electronics manufacturers who will launch Windows 8 tablets, followed the example of Microsoft Surface tablets. Most of them will have detachable removable included in the price or available as separate accessories.
The only major manufacturer that has decided not to offer yet a Windows 8 tablet with keyboard is Dell.
After the iPad has caused declines in the sales of laptops, a tablet that serves also as an ultrabook could cause losses for Apple.

Lenovo Intros Thin and Light S Series Ultraportable Notebooks

Posted by cnetwork On Sunday, September 2, 2012 1 comments

During this year’s IFA event in Berlin, Germany, Chinese company Lenovo has decided to announce its new thin and light series of notebooks called the S series. The new product line is powered by Intel’s processors and AMD’s mobile GPUs while there are also models using AMD’s APUs only.
The first and most expensive member of the new S series from Lenovo is the S300.
This is a thin and light notebook powered by Intel’s Ivy Bridge based Core i5 processor and a discrete AMD video card.
The diagonal size of the screen measures 13” and body color is white while the keyboard is black.
The second on the list is the S400 that also comes equipped with Intel’s Ivy Bridge based Core i5 processor and a discrete AMD video card. The mobile system can feature a 500 GB HDD and also has a 32 GB SSD to boost the overall responsiveness and degrease boot time.
Lenovo’s S405 is surprisingly positioned as a top solution featuring an AMD A8 APU with four x86 processing cores, a 1TB HDD and the same 32 GB SSD that the S400 has.
The S400 and S405 are 14” notebooks and there are more different color schemes such as white, black, red, silver and apparently pink.
All the systems in the new Lenovo S series are not positioned as UltraBooks, but are clearly quite thin and quite light.
They all weigh a maximum of 1.8 Kg and that's just under 4 pounds while being just 21.9 millimeters thick (0.87 inches).
The starting price is $500 (400 EUR) and it will vary slightly depending on the configuration.
The way Lenovo likes to put it, the S series have a long battery life just like netbooks, but come with the processing power of a notebook, lacking the price premium of an UltraBook.

Lenovo Unveils ThinkPad X1 Carbon, the Lightest 14” UltraBook

Posted by cnetwork On Tuesday, May 15, 2012 1 comments
Today, Chinese computer manufacturer Lenovo is previewing at the company’s Accelerate Channel Partner Conference in Las Vegas the lightest 14” UltraBook in the industry. It’s called the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and it’s made out of a premium carbon fiber chassis. The new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 UltraBook is packed with premium features such as 3G connectivity and Lenovo’s own RapidCharge technology that guarantees a near-full battery charge in 30 minutes, along with Intel’s vPro technology packet that allows every security agency to monitor your computer.
The processing power is delivered by Intel’s latest generation of Ivy Bridge processors and it will have up to 8 GB of DDR3 RAM to play with.
Graphics are displayed on a 16:9 small matte screen with a 1600:900 resolution.
We would have liked it to have a normal 4:3 display, but how can we expect the big brands to think about the users and not the profit?
For those who need a reminder, the 16:9 screen format actually offers less screen space than a 16:10 display with the same official diagonal size.
Compared with standard 4:3 screens, the 16:9 displays offer much less screen area. The weight is a little bit under three pounds, that would mean that the lightest ultrabook weighs less than 1.36 Kg.
Despite the small weight and size, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon touts a 10-hour battery life that will be 80% recharged in just 30 minutes with Lenovo’s RapidCharge technology.
The front facing webcam can offer 720p video quality and the speakers are Dolby Home Theater v4 certified.
The camera also comes with face tracking software that will make you more visible to anybody watching you through it. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon price is not yet public, but the small wonder with its backlit keyboard and all will be on sale before the end of this summer.

Dell launches XPS 13 ultrabook

Posted by cnetwork On Wednesday, January 11, 2012 0 comments
Dell has joined this week to electronic manufacturers that launched ultrabooks probably the most popular segment in the CES 2012 event.
Aware that the struggle for supremacy with Asus, Lenovo, Acer and Toshiba will not be an easy at all, Americans have tried to come up with some unusual things ,with XPS 13 model, even if the technical configurations have no major surprises.
As the name suggests, Dell XPS 13 is a ultrabook with a 13.3 " display embedded in a housing which used on a regular 12" , providing protection with the Gorilla Glass and a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, thad has already become standard for this segment.
The main news in the section are construction and design. So if other manufacturers opt for aluminum or plastic, Dell has opted for no more than three materials: cover is made of aluminum, the palmrest is made of a magnesium alloy, while the Americans have opted for a carbon fiber rear.Even if it seems unnecessary on the back, carbon fiber helps to better cooling and lower total weight (the weights that ultrabook has 1.35 kg).
Another advantage is the backlit keyboard, which certainly will find fans among those who write a lot at night, especially since this is one of the few shortcomings of the Lenovo's U300S considered one of the top sites ultrabook.
Hardware platform is provided by dual-core processors offered by Intel SandyBridge. The basic version is equipped with Intel Core i5 2467M, Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics card , 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD, while the top version you get an Intel i7 2637M, Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics card , 4 GB of RAM and 256 GB SSD.

Core i7-3667U and i5-3427U Are Intel’s 2012 Ultrabook CPUs

Posted by cnetwork On Wednesday, December 7, 2011 0 comments
For Intel, 2012 will mark the introduction of its 22nm Ivy Bridge architecture and among all the CPU models to be included in this series two particularly interesting chips are the Core i7-3667U and i5-3427U.
These are of course destined to be used in Ultrabooks and as such have a TDP of just 17W making them highly efficient in terms of power consumption.
But outside of their low TDP, the two U-Series Ivy Bridge chips also have some other tricks up their sleeves such as an Intel HD 4000 built-in GPU, two computing cores with Hyper-Threading support as well as Turbo Boost support.
Furthermore, as VR-Zone reports even their operating clocks are set at an impressive 2.0 and 1.8 GHz with Turbo Boost raising these frequencies up to 3.2GHz and respectively 2.8GHz.
The only downside is that we’ll have to wait until May of 2012 or so to get our hands on an Ultrabook sporting one of these two mobile powerhouses

Intel Wants Thunderbolt on All Ultrabooks

Posted by cnetwork On Wednesday, November 23, 2011 0 comments
Intel hasn't, so far, managed to promote Thunderbolt much, but it might have just what it needs to get it all over the world as soon as the next batch of ultrabooks is ready, or so it thinks.

VR-Zone just reported that Intel intends to make sure that all ultrabooks starting 2012 onwards will support docking stations powered by the Thunderbolt connectivity standard.
This could be a hint that the Santa Clara Giant is meaning to turn Ultrabooks, or some of them at least, into business devices.

That would make some sense, seeing as how its overtures on the consumer front ended up stale.

Not that there is anything surprising in that. After all, Ultrabooks are unimpressive, with only thinness and low weight as advantages.

Their performance is underwhelming and they also cannot boast of having a better battery life (or even as good) as regular mobile PCs.

What Intel wants is for Ultrabooko makers to cram two things into the device's side: a large dock connector and a mini DsplayPort.

Manufacturers will get to choose what ports the dock will have, but Intel made some suggestions of its own, including HDMI via DP++, D-Sub via USB, eSATA via a PCI Express-based SATA controller, etc.

The chip giant also expects for a possibility of daisy chaining Thunderbolt devices onto the dock.

There are some limitations developers will have to wrestle with, unfortunately, and there doesn't seem to be room in Intel's plan for USB 3.0 docks either, despite SuperSpeed being much more affordable and popular, albeit slightly limited in a few areas.

That said, this latest project is questionable at best. It was already made clear that high prices are the primary reasons why Ultrabooks are selling poorly, so adding Thunderbolt docks on top of everything is rather counterintuitive (even Toshiba's new devices are a bit pricey).
