Nokia has said in an official announcement that "The Nokia 808 PureView, a device which showcases our imaging capabilities and which came to market in mid-2012, was the last Symbian device from Nokia".

Nokia Touts Benefits of Snapdragon S4 Chips

Posted by cnetwork On Monday, October 1, 2012 0 comments
Nokia’s first Windows Phone 8 smartphones, the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, will land on shelves soon with appealing new features packed inside, some of them powered by the Snapdragon S4 processors inside them.
These chips are bound to provide users with great performance levels on their devices, and Nokia is making sure that we are aware of that.
In a recent post on Nokia Conversations, the company is offering new details on what the processors can deliver, promising an “even more amazing” experience to its users.
Both Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 feature Snapdragon S4 processors inside, and both of them are expected to provide users with important battery savings, courtesy of the 28nm process Qualcomm used for their development.
Not only will people be able to enjoy longer usage times on their handsets, but they will also find them to remain cool to the touch, courtesy of thermal advancements.
Additionally, S4 comes with a new CPU and GPU, which should provide users with a fast Windows Phone 8 experience on their new Lumia devices, optimized for multi-core performance.
“In other words, even the most sophisticated apps and complex user interfaces will run buttery smooth. Paired with the new Adreno 225 GPU, the new Lumias also promise to bring console quality gaming and even more stunning graphics,” Nokia explains.
The processor also comes with support for 4G LTE connectivity, thus offering far better data speeds than before, regardless of whether it comes to surfing the web, playing games or video conferencing.
“Although previous 4G LTE implementions used to come at the expense of battery life, that’s no longer the case with Snapdragon’s integrated LTE multimode modem. By combining the modem and application processor, having Snapdragon in your phone means better battery life no matter what the connection speed is,” Nokia explains.
The GPU inside S4 can deliver better graphics, while the security of handsets has been enhanced through Qualcomm’s Secure MSM, which offers encrypted boot, secure code signing service, and Trustzone SEE.
Snapdragon S4 also offers support for the PureView technology that powers Lumia 920’s camera, while delivering a great location services performance, courtesy of support for both GPS and GLONASS.

iPhone 5 doesn't have the world's most advanced display

Posted by cnetwork On Friday, September 21, 2012 0 comments
The Apple's declaration that the iPhone 5 have 'world's most advanced display"could be a lie or a omission. Nokia Lumia 920 display exceeds the display of the iPhone 5 at the most important features.
The only excuse that can be found is that Nokia Lumia 920 has not been released yet, so the iPhone 5 has available approximately one month in which to hold the record.
Even if the screen size is not considered, iPhone 5-4 inches vs Nokia Lumia 920-4.5 inches, the new Nokia smartphone has a screen with better specifications than the iPhone.
Besides the higher resolution, 1280x720 for Nokia Lumia 920 and 1136x640 for iPhone 5, Lumia 920 has a higher pixel density: 332ppi compared to 326ppi.
In addition, technology Nokia PureMotion HD + provides a response time of 9 milliseconds versus the 23 milliseconds of the iPhone. Even the brightness of the Nokia is better than that of the iPhone, 600 nits compared to 569 nits.

Nokia promises new Windows phone coming soon

Posted by cnetwork On Wednesday, August 15, 2012 0 comments
Nokia Chief Executive Stephen Elop promised to unveil a new smartphone using Microsoft's latest Windows 8 software soon, raising the prospect it will be launched in early September before rival Apple promotes its new iPhone.
The Finnish company, which is fighting for survival after losing out to rivals in the lucrative smartphone business, is due to hold a trade show in Helsinki on September 5-6, just before an Apple event on September 12 where the U.S. competitor could announce a redesigned iPhone.
Nokia, the world's second-largest cellphone maker, has not commented on what it will announce at the Nokia World event, but business magazines have said it will unveil the new Windows 8 smartphones.
Elop, in Oslo for a meeting with Telenor Chief Executive Jon Fredrik Baksaas, did not deny a September launch but would only say Windows 8 smartphones would be released "relatively near term."
Elop, who was brought in from Microsoft in September 2010 to lead the company's battle against increasingly dominant Apple and Samsung, said he was sticking to his strategy of using Microsoft software despite the limited success of Windows Phones so far.
Nokia decided in early 2011 to ditch its home-grown Symbian software for a deal with Microsoft, aiming to catch up with Apple and Google in smartphones.
"I don't think about rewinding the clock and thinking about competing elsewhere," he told reporters.
"In today's war ... (between) Android, Apple and Windows, we are very clear, we are fighting that with the Windows phone."
Nokia lost 1.53 billion euros in the second quarter and sold just 4 million Windows phones in the period, well short of Apple's sales of 26 million iPhones and Samsung's 50 million smartphones.
