Twitter and MediaTek have signed a partnership to develop a Twitter phone. The microblogging network wants to produce a cheap phone that offers the same Twitter experience as on a smartphone.
Taiwanese company MediaTek has already developed the MediaTek MT6255 chipset, the feature phone, which includes native functionality for Twitter services.
While Facebook seems to work on a smartphone, the intention Twitter is to rapidly expand in the emerging markets, where up to 70% of terminals sold are feature phones, not smartphones.
The new MediaTek SoC will offer the experience of Twitter applications for Android and iOS on a cheap phone.
