Intel is working on a new series of Atom chips for servers to limit the ARM advantage in the field. The new Atom chips for microservers will be launched with Intel Centerton name.
With more energy efficiency than the old Intel Atom, the new chip will have a TDP of only 6W. Announcement about the new chip was made by Diane Bryant, the Vice President of Intel, in Beijing.
Intel Centerton, expected in the second half, do not offer an energy efficiency as high as Intel Atom chips for smartphones and tablets but it is actually a significant improve from last Intel Atom series that consume 15W.
Other Intel launches expected by the end of the year aims the Intel Xeon "E3 LV" architecture based on Ivy Bridge and a Sandy Bridge 15W chip.
